Updating the theme

Here’s a clear, step-by-step guide to update your ThemeForest WordPress theme using the Envato Market plugin (recommended) or manually via FTP or the WordPress dashboard:

🧩 Method 1: Update Automatically via Envato Market Plugin (Recommended)
  1. Download the Envato Market plugin
  2. Install the Plugin
    • Go to your WordPress dashboard → Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin
    • Upload the envato-market.zip file and activate it.
  3. Connect Your Envato Account
    • After activation, a new menu will appear: Envato Market.
    • Click on Envato Market → Settings.
    • Enter your Envato API Personal Token.
      • If you don’t have one, create it here:
        https://build.envato.com/create-token/
      • When creating the token, make sure to enable these permissions:
        • View and search Envato sites
        • Download your purchased items
        • Verify purchases you’ve made
    • Copy your token, paste it into the Token field, and click Save Changes.
  4. Update Your Theme
    • Once connected, go to Envato Market → Themes.
    • You’ll see your purchased ThemeForest themes listed.
    • If an update is available, click Update Automatically.

🧰 Method 2: Manual Update via WordPress Dashboard
  1. Download the latest theme version
    • Go to your ThemeForest account → Downloads → Download the latest version of your theme (Installable WordPress file only).
  2. Backup your website
    • Use a plugin like UpdraftPlus or All-in-One WP Migration before updating.
  3. Replace the old theme
    • Go to Appearance → Themes.
    • Activate another theme temporarily (e.g., “Twenty Twenty-Four”).
    • Delete the old version of your theme.
    • Click Add New → Upload Theme, and upload the new version ZIP file.
    • Activate the new version.
💻 Method 3: Manual Update via FTP (Advanced)
  1. Download the latest version of your theme from ThemeForest.
  2. Unzip the theme file on your computer.
  3. Connect to your website via FTP (e.g., FileZilla).
  4. Go to /wp-content/themes/ and locate your old theme folder.
  5. Rename the old folder (e.g., theme-name-old).
  6. Upload the new theme folder you just extracted.
  7. After upload, log in to WordPress → Appearance → Themes, and activate the new version.
  8. Delete the old theme folder once everything is working correctly.
